Trotternish Ridge

Trotternish Ridge - The Inner Hebrides
The loop north of Portree is a fantastic drive, particularly the western side, this landscape is truly unique. The Trotternish Ridge extends for some 30km and features the spectacular rock formations of the Old Man of Storr at the south end, and the Quiraing at the north end.

I took this one in March from the path to the Quiraing looking south just after the sun broke. It was quite a tricky scene to expose and I had to stack more than one grad to keep the sky in check.

The low morning sun was at the perfect angle to reveal the form of the landscape and its various textures, at this time of the morning there was also a little splash of colour in the clouds above, presenting a nice contrast to the golden colours on the land.
